Ruegsegger-Mackenzie take third place; Duke 4th in the new individual format held over the weekend in Pueblo.
Mullen boys grabbed two placings on Saturday in the first year of the Class 4A individual tournament.
The Mustangs’ Nicholas Ruegsegger-Colin Mackenzie finished in third place at No. 1 doubles and Patrick Duke was fourth at No. 2 singles.
Ruegsegger-Mackenzie defeated J.P. Carter-Wiley Carter of Steamboat Springs 6-1, 7-5.
And Duke, who made the semifinals, the best of any of the seven Mullen lines, fell to Niwot’s Lichen Liao 0-6, 1-6.
Under first-year coach Jeff Lepley, the Mustangs also won a first-round match (over Peak to Peak) in the new 16-school bracket that will decide the team championship.
